Measuring a square or rectangular pole correctly helps ensure the safety pad fits properly. For square poles, measure the width of one side. For rectangular poles, use all four sides to determine the equivalent square size.
Step 1: Measure the Pole
For a square pole, measure straight across one side of the pole. For example, if each side measures 5 inches, order a 5" square pole pad.
Take the measurement at the widest part of the pole. If the pole changes size from top to bottom, use the largest dimensions in the area that will be covered by the pad.
Have a Rectangular Pole?
Our square open-cell pole pads can also accommodate many rectangular poles. To determine the equivalent square size, add the measurements of all four sides and divide the total by 4.
Equivalent Square Size = Total of All Four Sides ÷ 4
For example, a 4" × 6" rectangular pole has four sides measuring:
4 + 6 + 4 + 6 = 20 inches
20 ÷ 4 = 5 inches
A 4" × 6" rectangular pole can therefore use a 5" × 5" square open-cell pole pad.
Step 2: Determine the Pad Height
Measure the vertical area you want the safety pad to cover. Our standard square pole pads are available in 4 FT and 6 FT heights. If your application requires something different, contact us about a custom solution.
Step 3: Check for Obstructions
Look for brackets, bolts, conduit, signs, base plates, changes in pole dimensions, or other objects that could interfere with the pad.
If the pole has an unusual shape or obstruction, take a few photos and measurements. We can help determine the best padding solution.
Not Sure About Your Measurements?
Send us your measurements and photos before ordering. Our team can review the application and help you select the appropriate safety padding.
