How to Measure a Round Pole for Safety Padding

Measuring a round pole correctly is the first step in ordering a safety pad that fits properly. The most important thing to know is whether you are measuring the pole's diameter or its circumference.

Step 1: Measure the Diameter

Measure straight across the center of the pole from one outside edge to the other. Do not measure around the pole.

Take the measurement at the widest part of the pole. If the pole changes size from top to bottom, use the largest diameter in the area that will be covered by the pad.

Don't Have an Easy Way to Measure the Diameter?

If you can easily measure around the pole but not across it, measure the circumference with a flexible tape measure.

To convert circumference to diameter:

Diameter = Circumference ÷ 3.14

For example, a pole with a circumference of approximately 15.7 inches has a diameter of approximately 5 inches.

Step 2: Determine the Pad Height

Measure the vertical area you want the safety pad to cover. Our standard round pole pads are available in 4 FT and 6 FT heights. If your application requires something different, contact us about a custom solution.

Step 3: Check for Obstructions

Look for brackets, bolts, conduit, signs, base plates, changes in pole diameter, or other objects that could interfere with the pad.

If your pole has an unusual shape or obstruction, take a few photos and measurements. We can help determine the best padding solution.

Not Sure About Your Measurements?
